Do not buy a single record. Do not download a single song, legally or illegally. Do not go to see a single film in cinemas, or download a copy, Do not buy a DVD in the stores. Do not buy a videogame. Do not buy a single book or magazine.
Wait the 4 weeks to buy them in April: see the film later, etc. Holding out for just 4 weeks, maximum, will leave a gaping hole in media and entertainment companies’ profits for the 1st quarter, an economic hit which will in turn be observed by governments worldwide as stocks and shares will blip from a large enough loss of incomes.
This action can give a statement of intent:”We will not tolerate the Media Industries’ lobbying for legistation which will censor the internet.”
I’m not an educated or political person. My friends know this about me. I don’t have strong opinions about this sort of thing.
I feel that this is a much better way to protest than blacking out your tumblr for a day.

Pfft as if I’m not going to do any of that for a whole month. There’s nothing wrong with trying to stop piracy, it’s just the way they are going about it that is bad.
I back this. But I also fucking back this every goddamn day of my life. Buy records from independent labels, directly. Go to shows, buy direct from the bands. Support your local film fourms. Buy used books from local stores. Go to the goddamn library. Who the fuck buys magazines and DVDs and goes to the movies? What fucking…what? People do that? I don’t comprehend.
uh this is idiotic for so many reasons I’m not even sure where to begin. I guess for starters I have to just say I dont understand what this indignation comes from? That just becasue you have an internet connection you are entitled to everything for free. I’m not saying this from some high horse, I’ve watched leaked movies on megavideo, I’ve illegally downloaded music, I’ve torrented tv shows but I’m aware that what I’m doing and I accept the slight shame that comes with it because it is outweighed by the savings in my pocket. But for some reason there are all these other people who paint themselves as liberators or freedom fighters for doing these things. Its some sort of Robin Hood complex. The problem is this isnt Robin Hood. This isnt stealing from the tax collector to give the people their money back. It’s more like if Robin Hood just stole from people before they got to pay the tax collector thinking “well.. fuck them the money is just going to go to the rich anyways so who cares.” I’m referring to the artists who actually make the product you are “liberating”. They are the ones who get screwed.
Then there is this call to action month long black out. I dont know why just because some 13 year old who doesnt understand anything makes a graphic it is suddenly Hannibal’s best plan yet. Maybe its my fault for not understanding but… what exactly is the message this is sending? I think a better plan is to take this black out and expand it to your everyday life but filter it down to just the garbage you all demand on seeing. That’s the real problem I see, that most people have shit taste. If you dont go see the latest comic book superhero garbage movie then they will stop making them. Stop listening to terrible music put out by the major labels being played on the radio. Maybe the gameplan first should be not be a fucking idiot and have better taste and then from there figure out a better course of action.
